Higher National Diploma in Art and Design (Fashion & Textiles)

The purpose of BTEC Higher Nationals Diploma in Art and Design (Fashion & Textiles) is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the creative industries sector and adapt to a constantly changing world.

This qualification has been designed to meet the needs of the contemporary creative industries. The pathways of this qualification are intended to provide students with opportunities to explore the creative industries through a focused curriculum that prepares them for further degree-level studies or working in the industry.

The qualification provides education and training for a range of careers in creative industries, including Graphic Design, Photography, Fashion, Textiles, Product Design, Interior Design, and Arts Practice.

HND Art and Design provide opportunities for students to enter or progress in employment in business, or progress to higher education qualifications such as an Honours degree in business or a related area.

HND Art & Design (Fashion/Textiles)

The course is based on project and studio work and covers fashion drawing, design development, pattern drafting and manufacturing skills.

In year one, you will learn design development, CAD design, pattern cutting and garment manufacture using industrial methods. In year 2, you will become more independent in your approach to learning.

You will work on personal research and design projects using both traditional and digital media to illustrate your designs.

You will take your designs through to a final collection and be encouraged to challenge tried-and-tested methods of design and pattern cutting using complex and inventive cutting and garment construction techniques.

The total credit value of the qualification = 240 Credits
The minimum credit to be achieved at the level of the qualification:

  • Level 4 120 (90 core mandatory, 30 optional)
  • Level 5 = 120 (45 core mandatory 75 optional/specialist)
  • The specialist units (3 units for Fashion or Textile)

Progression

Top up your HND to Honours Degree

Students have the option to top up their HND to BA (Hons) Arts & Design by applying to over 150 universities worldwide OR They can simply join the Top-up year at Beaconhouse International College to get a foreign university Honors degree (Equivalent to 16 years of Qualification)

Start up your own business

HND in Art & Design will put you on the right path to establishing and running a successful fashion / textiles business. Studying in-depth about the different aspects of the fashion / textiles industry will equip you with commercial acumen, understanding and business skills needed to be a successful designer and entrepreneur
