Overview

The Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Mechanical Engineering (BEng in Mechanical Engineering) is meticulously designed to develop a high level of technical proficiency alongside emotional intelligence. This enables graduates to excel as professional engineers in modern, interdisciplinary engineering environments. Acknowledging the evolving expectations on engineers, the programme aims to equip graduates with the capabilities to assume significant technical leadership and management responsibilities early in their careers, thereby facilitating immediate contributions to their employers' organisations.

Objectives

  • Develop students' transferable skills and professional behavioural traits beyond those typically associated with a M.Eng graduate.
  • Prepare graduates to hold responsible technical and managerial roles within various mechanical engineering and associated industries.
  • Deliver an educational experience where students can deepen their knowledge of engineering science, core engineering principles, and foundational subjects such as mathematics and computation.
  • Cultivate students' confidence in analyzing challenging technical problems.
  • Further develop core engineering knowledge and skills through the investigation and development of credible and robust solutions.
  • Provide support and encouragement for students to develop skills for independent study.
  • Foster a sense of responsibility for their own learning and subsequent professional development.
  • Equip engineering graduates with highly relevant transferable skills, including teamwork, communication, management, problem-solving, and proficiency in computing and technical computing.
  • Offer a programme that fully aligns with the requirements of the Engineering Council's UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UKSpec).
  • Partially qualify successful graduates for the attainment of Chartered Engineer status from the Engineering Council after completing an appropriate period of industrial experience.
  • Produce graduates with an enhanced depth and breadth of knowledge and understanding in mechanical engineering, management, and teamwork.
  • Enable graduates to rapidly assume technical leadership and management roles within their chosen fields.
